a message from the founder
Growing up as a young musician, I found myself frustrated and confused by lessons. When I played, my teachers would say things like, "make a beautiful sound" ...without actually teaching me what that meant or how to do that.
So... I would pick up my flute, and I would try again. With the same outcome. I didn't have a clear understanding of those abstract concepts, and I didn't know what to change... so I ended up repeating the same mistakes over and over.
On top of that, when it came to practice, my teachers would say, "You should practice for an hour a day." So, I did. But during that hour, I would play my assignments on repeat without much thought or intention.
Sometimes I got lucky and something improved... but more often than not, I didn't make the progress that I hoped to.
I always knew this way of teaching wasn't the right way. It wasn't effective for me, and it's not effective for other students, either. So when I became a music teacher myself, I knew I had to do something different.
I founded Mind Body Music Academy on a fully integrated mind-body approach to music learning.
Instead of abstract concepts, we teach students exactly how to use their bodies to get the outcome they want.
Instead of sending students home to learn their music on their own, we practice together during lessons, and they go home with their music already learned.
This approach is the key. It's how our students make fast progress. It's how they develop into successful musicians. And, in the end, it's why our students say that playing music feels easy and fun.
I'm proud to have created the only comprehensive learning program that views music education through the lens of "mind, body, music," and I hope to share it with you.

HOW TO DECIDE IF OUR PROGRAM IS RIGHT FOR YOU
While our students range in age and musical experience, they do have something in common. All of our students are self-motivated, excited about learning, and not afraid to take on a challenge. When they make a commitment to learning and improving, they experience success.
Our program is perfect for your child if...
*They're excited about music and not afraid to take on a challenge
*They're able to focus independently for an hour at a time in an online lesson format
*They're ready to commit to regular lessons and daily practice
Our program may not be right for your family if...
*You're just looking for a few sporadic lessons
*Your child is under the age of 9 and/or unable to focus for an hour
*You have a slow or unreliable internet connection

What our clients are saying...
"Melissa's love for music is contagious. She encourages her students to develop a passion for learning and to overcome challenges. My son took lessons with Melissa for several years and developed a strong playing technique and love for music. He is now a leader in a very demanding music program at his middle school."
