PROFESSIONAL FLUTIST IN BOSTON
Melissa Vining is a professional independent flutist and music teacher in Boston. She frequently performs for church services as well as weddings, funerals, and other special events. Melissa is experienced performing for Catholic, Anglican, and Non-Denominational church services. She enjoys performing both traditional and contemporary worship music. Melissa is flexible and available on short notice for events during the day, in the evening, and on weekends.
Melissa grew up in the Episcopal Church and continues to practice Christianity in Boston. As a child, she was inspired to pick up the flute after hearing another young flute player perform at a church camp talent show in Minnesota. Melissa earned her Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Northern Iowa where she studied flute with Dr. Angeleita Floyd, Dr. Angela Collier Reynolds, and Dr. Hannah Leffler, and studied piano with Sean Botkin. As an undergraduate student, Melissa performed in masterclasses with Dr. Virginia Broffitt Kunzer, Shivhan Dohse Morton, and Erica Peel. She previously played as substitute flutist with the Minneapolis Civic Orchestra and substitute alto saxophonist with the Mood Swings Jazz Orchestra.
WHICH AREAS DO YOU SERVE?
Boston and the immediate surrounding suburbs.
CAN I REQUEST SPECIFIC INSTRUMENTATION?
Absolutely! I have a network of great colleagues, and I'll do my best to arrange a specific instrument group for you. Please be aware that there are additional fees for additional musicians.
WHAT IF I HAVE OTHER MUSICIANS LINED UP AND JUST NEED A FLUTIST?
That's great! I'm happy to jump in with your existing group. For example, I frequently collaborate with church music directors and staff pianists.
WHAT ARE YOUR PERFORMANCE FEES?
I charge a flat rate for each performance (rather than per hour). The rate depends on the anticipated length of the event, the location, and the number of musicians. Please contact me to discuss your music needs and to receive a quote for your event.
